• The Huskers end up 7th and 8th in the two major polls, moving up 1 spot in each. Because of the lame way the bowls played out, with most of the top 10 playing teams in the 2nd 10, most of the teams above us won, instead of playing each other. Strange year. I placed the Huskers 6th, above Florida State. At least we were able to score on Oklahoma! 01/04/2001

• The Huskers totally dominate #18 Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl. I am still not pleased about the bowl we went to, but the Huskers sure made their case for why we all KNEW they should be in one of the BCS bowl games. • The Huskers will take on #18 Northwestern in the Alamo Bowl. Nothing against the Alamo Bowl, but this is bogus. #11 Notre Dame is in the Fiesta - what's up with that? #9 Kansas State also gets dissed, and is in the Cotton Bowl against #21 Tennessee. The Huskers are 9-2, but there are 7 teams with worse records playing on January 1st. Again, this is bogus - but the Huskers have nobody to blame but themselves. I can't help but wonder if the poor showing against Colorado screwed us for the 2nd year in a row. The game will be carried by ESPN, so those of you that don't have cable or a dish are also out of luck - or off to the bar! I am sure some local channel will carry the game in Nebraska, but it is a sad day when the #8 team in the country gets pushed back to a 12/30 game, when 20 other teams will play in later games. • The Oklahoma Sooners beat Kansas State 27-24 yesterday to win the Big 12 Conference Championship. Good luck to the Sooners, and bring the National Championship back to the Big 12. 12/03/2000

• The Huskers remain at #8 in the BCS poll. 11/20/2000
• The Huskers fall 4 spots to #8 in the BCS poll. Oklahoma, Miami, Florida State, and Florida lead the pack, while Kansas State comes in at #10. 11/13/2000
• The Huskers fall 5 spots in the coaches poll, but at least remain in the Top 10 at the #10 spot. They also fall to #10 in the AP poll. They may do slightly better in the BCS poll, since the worst they are rated in the power polls is 9th. But does it really matter? Several of the teams above us play each other, so we need to regroup, beat Colorado, win a bowl game, and we could still end up in the Top 5. 11/12/2000
• The Huskers remain 4th in the BCS poll, with Virginia Tech falling, but Miami jumped up to 3rd. But things will improve if we continue to win. 11/06/2000
• TCU lost last night, so Oklahoma remains as the only undefeated team. This is the earliest I can remember this happening, and it keeps things interesting. The Huskers move up to 4th in the AP poll as Virginia Tech falls, with Oklahoma, Miami, and Florida State above them, and Florida just a few votes behind them. The Huskers move up to 5th in the Coaches poll. Oklahoma and the 3 Florida teams remain above them. 11/05/2000
• Oklahoma blows out Baylor 56-7. Miami knocks off Virginia Tech, with Michael Vick only playing 18 minutes because of his sprained right ankle suffered last week against Pittsburg. So Virginia Tech will drop, but the question is will Miami jump anybody in the BCS poll? Probably not Florida State, who routed Clemson 54-10 in the Bowden Bowl II. Hopefully we can move up a notch to #3, but should at least hang on to the #4 spot in the BCS. We won't pass Florida State, and Miami may jump up as Virginia Tech drops. But hopefully beating VT without Vick won't help Miami as much as beating them with Vick would have. 11/04/2000
• The Huskers fall to 4th in the BCS poll, behind Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, and Florida State. Miami closely trails the Huskers, followed by Florida. So, all things considered, we are in fairly good shape. I guess we have to hope that Miami beats Virginia Tech this weekend, but then they may jump us, since they are just behind us now. Also, Clemson travels to Florida State, and it would be a big help if Clemson could knock off Florida State. The playoffs are in full swing! 10/30/2000
• The Huskers fall to 5th in the AP poll, behind Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Miami, and Florida State, but edge out Florida for the #5 spot. The Huskers fall to 6th in the USA Today poll, after Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, and the 3 Florida teams. 10/29/2000
• The Huskers lose to arch-nemesis Oklahoma, 14-31 in Norman. While this is bad, we are not out of the running yet. A few other top 10 ranked teams lost today, with undefeated Clemson losing to Georgia Tech, and Kansas State losing to Texas A&M. Several other games were way closer than they should have been. Oklahoma should be #1 across the board after knocking off the Huskers, jumping over Virginia Tech in the polls and rankings where they weren't already ahead of them. We need to win the rest of our games, have Oklahoma do the same, and then knock them off in the Big 12 Championship. Florida State still faces Florida and Clemson. Virginia Tech plays Miami in Miami next week. We will have to wait until tomorrow or Monday to see where the Huskers end up. I figure somewhere between 3rd and 6th, depending on where the 3 1-loss Florida teams end up. So just hang on - this season is a strange one. Only 3 undefeated Teams remain, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, and TCU. 10/28/2000
• The first BCS rankings are out today, and the Huskers are #1, and the Oklahoma Sooners are #2, just in time for this weeks showdown. It should be awesome - just wish it was in Lincoln! Feels like old times again, with Oklahoma being the biggest game of the regular season. GO HUSKERS!!!!! 10/23/2000
• Oklahoma knocks off Kansas State 41-31 in Manhattan - they are back. Also, Ohio State loses to Minnesota, so 2 more undefeated teams fall today. 10/14/2000
• The Huskers defeat Iowa State (4-1) 49-27, and Florida State gets knocked off by Miami, 27-24. So Florida State lasts only 1 week after taking over the AP poll #1 spot from the Huskers, and we should be back on top. On a personal note, I was happy to see Purdue knock off Michigan! And Oklahoma seems to be back with a vengeance, crushing #10 Texas, 63-14. Oklahome faces Kansas State next week. 10/07/2000
• After the 2nd (or 3rd) game where the Huskers failed to dominate and win big, Florida State has taken the #1 spot in the AP poll, taking away 11 1st place votes from Nebraska, and 1 more from Florida. The Huskers remain #1 in the coaches poll, but Florida State closes the gap, and takes away 7 1st place votes from the Huskers. 10/01/2000

  Game Comments:
  
  The Huskers win their 15 straight opener, and had 42 points or more for the 5th straight opener. The game was the first college football game to be video webcast live on the internet. It had some problems, but it was better than not seeing it at all. But I was watching on a corporate network, which is way faster than even DSL or a cable modem. So it would appear that a ton of people were trying to see the webcast, and the servers just couldn't handle the load.
  
  The Blackshirts got off to a slow start, and allowed San Jose State to get a TD and 159 yards of total offense in the 1st quarter. But the Huskers were never in any danger, and the heat may have been a factor. Kyle Vanden Bosch did deflect a San Jose State FG attempt that then bounced off the upright to kill the first San Jose State drive.
  
  Eric Crouch ran for for 3 TDs and passed for another, and had 87 yards rushing. Dan Alexander rushed for 208 yards and 2 TDs, and Correll Buckhalter rushed for 117 yards. The Huskers had 596 yards of total offense, 505 of that on the ground.
  
  Eric Crouch was only 4 out of 10 passing for 67 yards, but the key one was the 27 yard TD pass to Tracey Wistrom.
  
  Overall, the Huskers looked pretty good, and San Jose State never gave up and gave us a pretty good warm up for Notre Dame.
  
  Notre Dame beat Texas A&M 24-10, so they should be ranked when the Huskers play them next week.

  Game Comments:
  
  The Huskers play the first game of the season against a ranked team: Notre Dame (23)
  
  The Huskers open with a 36 yard pass from Eric Crouch to Bobbie Newcombe, but then the drive stalled, and for most of the rest of the 1st quarter, both teams exchanged punts. The Blackshirts did pick off one pass at the Notre Dame 35, but failed on 4th and 4 to get the 1st down. However, with the 1st quarter almost gone, and the broadcasters giving Eric Crouch a slight shot about being only 2 rushes for a -3 yards, Eric Crouch ripped off a 62 yard run up the middle, breaking a tackle or two, and then out running the defender to the endzone.
  
  Notre Dame drives 82 yards, aided by a couple of Husker penalties. The Huskers go 65 yards in 13 plays, capped off with a 1 yd run by Eric Crouch for the score.
  
  After each team going 3 and out to start the 3rd quarter, the Huskers drive down the field and Dan Alexander takes it in for the TD from the 28 yard line. Great play, great drive, but Notre Dame responds with a 100 yard kickoff return by Julius Jones.
  
  Well, either Notre Dame has one of the best special teams ever, or we have problems on ours. Early in the 4th quarter, Notre Dame adds another TD, this time on an 83 yard punt return. Later, with 6:48 left, the Blackshirts stop Notre Dame on a 4th and short, and the Huskers take over on their own 30. Back and forth, nobody scores, and we are going to overtime, with the score tied 21-21. Notre Dame basically let the clock run out on the 4th quarter. I was surprised they didn't go for some relatively safe sideline plays.
  
  The Blackshirts stop Notre Dame, and force them to kick the 29 yard FG. Eric Crouch scores the winning TD on a 7 yard run, and the Huskers win the game in OT, 27-24.
  
  Eric Crouch rushed 16 times for 80 yards and 3 TDs, and Dan Alexander rushed 24 times for 112 yards and 1 TD. The offense moved the ball well most of the game, but seemed a little stunned in the 4th quarter. Of course, after doing their job only to watch their 2 TD lead be blown by poor special teams play, who can blame them. They didn't get stupid, and were ready to finish the job in OT.
  
  Now the question is will the Huskers lose their number 1 ranking? It depends on what Florida State does, but this may knock us down to number 2. The Huskers and Florida State were basically tied for number 1, separated by only a few votes. Florida State was at Georgia Tech tonight, and won the game 26-21, but trailed at the start of the 4th quarter. So hopefully the Huskers will hang on.

  Game Comments:
  
  The Huskers were huge favorites over Iowa today, but Iowa didn't seem to care - Iowa came to play. The Hawkeyes score first, early in the 1st Qtr. The Huskers just do not seem to be able to play the way they should after an idle week. To make it more of a bummer, I was only able to see about 20 minutes of the game in the first half. The rest of the time was poor radio reception and finally on the internet.
  
  The Huskers are scoring points in an unusual way for them - Eric Crouch has 5 TD passes, 3 to Tracey Wistrom and 2 to Matt Davison. The last time the Huskers passed for 5 TDs was against UCLA back in 1987, when Steve Taylor did it. Eric Crouch ended up completing 10 out of 13 for 159 yards and the 5 TDs. The offense was dominant at times, like the opening drive of the second half, and flat at other times. One long drive was killed by a fumble at the Iowa 10 yard line. Dan Alexander rushed 15 times for 113 yards, and Correll Buckhalter rushed 16 times for 100 yards. Eric Crouch was just under 100, rushing for 93 yards.
  
  It seems like the Huskers are going to have to keep working on the special teams play. They are still giving up too many return yards, and aren't getting any returns themselves.
  
  I didn't see the open drive for Iowa, but after that, the Blackshirts at least played well enough to hold Iowa to a couple of FGs. Iowa did have 299 yards of total offense. Again, at times the defense played great, and at others they seemed flat. But as a nice way to finish the day, the Blackshirts pick off a 4th down pass by Iowa with about a minute to go and Troy Watchorn returns it 30 yards for the TD!!

  The Huskers again let the opponent open scoring, with Missouri scoring a TD midway through the 1st quarter, the only time Missouri led. But we need to shut down the opponents first drive (and every drive, for that matter).
  
  The Blackshirts played well enough so that we could win, and did score a TD on Burrow's 27 yd fumble return, but the Blackshirts need to step it up, and get the ball back to the offense. Missouri had 492 yards total offense.
  
  Eric Crouch had another great day, passing 11 out of 23 for 173 yards an 2 TDs, and rushing 24 times for 110 yards and another TD. Correll Buckhalter caught his first TD pass, a 34 yarder, and later added a 47 yard run, and finished with 7 carries for 94 yards.
  
  Bobbie Newcombe may deserve the game ball for his 94 yard punt return for a TD in the 2nd quarter, a Nebraska school record.
  
  This was the 22nd straight victory by the Huskers over the Missouri Tigers, and the 26th consecutive conference opener victory.

  Iowa State wins the toss, defers, tries an onside kick on the opening kickoff, and gets it. The Blackshirts stop them, but the Huskers start at the 12 after the punt, and go three and out. Iowa State runs a few plays, and then scores on 53 yard TD pass play. What a way to start the game, and again the Huskers let the opponent get on the board first. The only good thing going on at this point in the game, is that Miami just scored the go ahead TD over Florida State!! Miami holds on, and Florida State misses a FG that would have put the game into overtime, and Miami defeats Florida State, 27-24. Now all we have to do is win the game, and we should be back on top of both polls. Also, in a day for upsets, Purdue knocks of Michigan!! I bet my friend Tim is happy, and I know I am!
  
  The Huskers start their next drive at their 24, and get things going, but stall out and fail to convert on 4th and 3 on the ISU 24. ISU fails to do much, and with a 4th and 1 from their 45, punt the ball. Joe Walker rips off a decent punt return, from the 5 out to the 40, where the Huskers will start again. Dan Alexander starts showing his strength, getting a first down with extra effort, and then runs up the middle for 27 yards to the ISU 23. The drive stalls their, and the FG is no good, off to the right. ISU still leads 7-0. The 1st quarter is almost over.
  
  The Blackshirts hold, with the help of a dropped pass, and ISU punts and the Huskers take over at the 50. Lost my internet audio feed for a minute, but apparently Eric Crouch just went 39 yards, and then on 1st and goal Correll Buckhalter goes for the final 9 and the TD. We finally score, and I miss it! But at least the game is tied now. ISU takes over at the 20, I lose my audio feed again, and when I get back it is the Huskers ball on the ISU 22, and the Huskers kick a FG to take the lead, 10-7. Eric Crouch gets picked off, and ISU returns it for a TD, ISU 14-10. The Huskers start at their 32, and on 3rd and 3, Eric Crouch hits Tracey Wistrom on a 52 yd pass to the ISU 8. The Huskers can't get it done, and Josh Brown hits the 29 yd FG. ISU leads 14-13, which is the score at the end of the 1st half.
  
  ISU goes 3 and out. The Huskers start on the 39. Willie Miller for 11, Eric Crouch for 23, Dan Alexander for 3, Eric Crouch for 1, and then Correll Buckhalter takes it in for the TD. The Huskers go for 2, and Eric Crouch hits Aaron Golliday for the 2 pt conversion. Huskers lead 21-14. ISU drives 80 yards in 11 plays for a TD, but ISU misses the extra point. Huskers lead 21-20.
  
  The Huskers drive 64 yards in 11 plays for a TD, featured by 24 yard pass to Correll Buckhalter, and a 20 yard pass to Tracey Wistrom, with Willie Miller takes it the final 9 yards. ISU gets the ball, and the Blackshirts pick it offThe Huskers take over on the 18 after the turnover, and it is Willie Miller for 6, Eric Crouch for 11, and Correll Buckhalter takes it in from the 1 for the TD! ISU goes 3 and out, and the Huskers are driving again, when Eric Crouch takes it 33 yards to the ISU 19. Eric is well over 100 yards rushing now. After a few plays, Eric Crouch sneaks it in from inside the 1 for the TD. ISU mounts another TD drive, going 65 yards in 7 plays. They go for an onside kick, but it goes out of bounds, and the Huskers start on the 43. Dahrran Diedrick has to big runs of 15 and 22 yards, and the Jammal Lord audibles and takes it in himself from the 5 for the TD. The Blackshirts pick off the final ISU pass in the endzone as time runs out.
  
  The Huskers had 500 yards of Total Offense, with Eric Crouch leading the way with 19 rushes for 136 yards, and was 7 out of 17 for 164 yards passing. He did give up the one costly interception that was returned for a TD. Dan Alexander rushed 21 times for 96 yards. Correll Buckhalter rushed 9 times for only 20 yards, but did have 3 rushing TDs, and also had a 25 yard pass reception. Tracey Wistrom had 101 yards receiving. The Blackshirts had some good moments, but again allowed the opponent to get the first score. Iowa State managed to accumulate 383 yards of total offense, which is still way too much.

  1st Quarter: The Huskers get the ball first, and Texas Tech forces them to go 3 and out. Texas Tech is moving the ball, and the Blackshirts pick off the ball at their own 15 yard line, and return it to the 27, a 12-yard return by Troy Watchorn. Dan Alexander goes for 9 and then 7, and then Eric Crouch hits Matt Davison for 29 yards to the Tech 28 yard line. Crouch loses 2, then Alexander goes for 9 again. 3rd and 3 and some confusion, and the Huskers have to burn an early timeout. Dan Alexander takes it to the 15, and fumbles the ball away. Texas Tech takes over at the 18, and Joe Walker picks off the pass and returns it 19 yards for the TD! Great job Joe Walker, 8th career interception, and 3rd career interception for a TD! The Huskers get on the board first - hopefully a great sign!
  
  Texas Tech takes over at the 20. The Huskers have to waste another timeout, not sure why. The Blackshirts hold, and the Huskers take over at their 42. Eric Crouch takes it 40 yards to the Tech 18. Dan Alexander takes it 13 to the 5, then to the 3, and Eric Crouch walks it in from there! Texas Tech will start at the 23. The Blackshirts sack Kingsbury at the 16, a 1 yard gain, and Texas Tech punts it away. The Huskers take over at their 29 after a clipping penalty. On 2nd and 19 after another penalty, Eric Crouch hits Bobbie Newcombe for 20 yards and the 1st down. Crouch to Newcombe again for 8 more. Correll Buckhalter takes it for 10 yards to the Tech 42, and another 1st down. The 1st quarter ends with the Huskers having a 3rd and 1 on the Tech 33.
  
  2nd Quarter: The Huskers have it 4th and 1 on the 8, and Eric Crouch sneaks for the 1st down. A few plays later, Eric Crouch hits John Gibson for an 8 yard TD. Texas Tech takes over on their 20, and go 3 and out. A terrible punt, straight up in the air, and the Huskers take over at the 28 of Texas Tech! Alexander for 5, then 4. Eric for 2 and the 1st down at the 16. Crouch for 1, then Crouch hits Judd Davies for 8 to the 7. Crouch goes for no gain, 4th and 1. The Huskers go for it, and Dan Alexander takes it to the 3, 1st and goal. Willie Miller for a couple, and then Eric Crouch takes it in from the 1 for the TD! During the last drive, the temperature on the field has dropped 10 degrees. A storm is looming in Texas, lightning all around the stadium. Chase long kicks another one out of the endzone, and Texas Tech takes over at the 20. The Blackshirts do the job again, and Tech goes 3 and out.
  
  The Huskers take over on their 45, with 4 minutes to go in the 1st half. The Huskers go 3 and out themselves, and punt the ball away, and Texas Tech takes over on their 16. False start, and Texas Tech is moving backwards again to the 11. Flags again, false start, 1st and 20 from the 6. The Husker fans are chanting DEFENSE DEFENSE, and Kingsbury thows an incomplete pass. Texas Tech avoids a safety on a bad snap, but they gain a yard. 3rd and 19. Tech passes to the 20, but it is 4th and 6, and the Blackshirts have done an outstanding job in the first half, and the Huskers will get the ball back on their 47 with about 2 minutes to go in the half. Buckhalter takes it 20 yards to the Tech 32, but on the next play Eric Crouch gets picked off by Texas Tech at the Tech 24. Tech is moving the ball, with Kliff Kingsbury passing to Derek Dorris for 24 yards to the 48. A penalty moves the Red Raiders back to the 38, and Tech can't overcome it, and with 4th and 15 go for it but only get to the Huskers 43, and the Huskers get the ball back with 4 seconds to go, and the 1st half ends with an incomplete pass.
  
  3rd Quarter: Texas Tech starts on their own 22, and move the ball effectively to start the 3rd quarter, making it to the Huskers 24. They stall there, and settle for the field goal, but do get on the board. The Huskers start on their 20, and Dan Alexander runs for 9, 6, 5, and another 6, then Willie Miller for 2. Alexander for another 4 and then 12, to the Tech 36. on 3rd and 12, Eric Crouch thows a screen to Alexander for 14 yards and the 1st down. Willie Miller for 8 tough yards, then Alexander for 3 more and the 1st down on the 13. Eric Crouch hits Matt Davison for 8. Alexander for 1, and then Willie Miller takes it up the gut from the 4 for the TD, his 2nd TD of the year.
  
  Chase long boots it through the end zone, and Tech starts on the 20. Kliff Kingsbury burns us on a 31 yard pass play to our 49, but the drive stalls out there. The Huskers start on their own 19. Jammal Lord is in at QB, Eric Crouch gets a well deserved rest. Dahrran Diedrick loses 1, then Jammal Lord runs for 9. Correll Buckhalter takes it 5 for the 1st down. A penalty sets us back 5, and then Jammal Lord takes it 11 yards to the 38, 2nd and 4, and the 3rd quarter ends.
  
  4th Quarter: Jammal Lord audibles on the 1st play of the 4th quarter, and Correll Buckhalter takes it 21 yards to the Tech 41. Jammal takes it for 3, and then hits Bobbie Newcombe for 12 to the 26, and then Correll takes it again for 4, then rips off a nice 19 yard run to the 3, and then he takes it in standing up on the next play for the TD! Great job Jammal Lord running the offense, 10 plays and 85 yards. Texas Tech starts at their 13, and goes 3 and out. The Huskers get the ball back on the Tech 43. Lot of subs in now. Dahrran Diedrick runs for 3, a penalty move us back 5, and then Diedrick goes for 15. Lords for 3. Diedrick for 8 to the Tech 9, then 4 more to the 5. Jammal lord gives it to Dahrran Diedrick who dives into the endzone for the TD!
  
  Texas Tech gets a decent kick return, and kicker Chase Long makes the tackle at the Tech 33. Texas Tech goes 3 and out again, and the Huskers start at their 25. Jammal Lord starts his 3rd drive of the night, and throws an incompletion. Diedrick takes it 13 yards to the 13, the 3 more. Fullback Paul Kastl runs for 2, Diedrick for 2, and it is 4th and 3. Dan Hadenfeldt booms the punt, but a roughing the kicker penalty gives the Huskers another shot at the Tech 40. A new I-Back in, freshman DeAntae Grixby takes it 4 yards, then another 9 to the Tech 26. DeAntae Grixby for 4, then 8. Jammal Lord runs for a loss of 2, but there are flags on the play. Half the distance, 1st and goal on the 8. Jammal Lord takes it in for the TD on a great fake. Texas Tech starts on their 13. They move the ball 31 yards in 8 plays, and go for it on 4th and 10, incomplete. The Huskers take over there, new QB Joe Chrisman in for the Huskers. DeAntae Grixby runs for 5, then another 7. Joe Chrisman takes it for 8 yards to the 24. DeAntae Grixby for 11 to the Tech 13, and time runs out. Great job by the subs, great job by the Huskers, and great job by the Blackshirts!
  
  Summary: The Huskers finally put together a complete game. 8 TDs by 7 different players, including one by the Blackshirts on Joe Walker's 19 yard interception return. That was a key interception, and may have been the key play of the game as far as momentum is concerned, since the Huskers had just driven down the field and then fumbled. Eric Crouch played great, rushed for 2 TDs and passed for another, and got to rest in the 2nd half. Jammal Lord took over and played great, and scored a TD. Dan Alexander rushed 20 times for 113 yards, and Correll Buckhalter rushed 13 times for 105 yards. 540 yards of total offense, 442 rushing, and the Blackshirts held Tech to 19 yards rushing, and 200 yards total. First downs 30 to 11. Time of possession 37:48 to 22:12. The Blackshirts applied pressure to Kliff Kingsbury all day. The Huskers dominated this one, and it was great to see so many new faces.

  Baylor comes to Lincoln, bringing head coach Kevin Steele, who used to be an assistant at Nebraska, and our old friend Tommie Frazier, who is the running backs coach for the Baylor Bears.
  
  1st Quarter: Baylor goes 3 and out, and the Blackshirts score first again, this time Keyuo Craver recovers a blocked Baylor punt for the TD! Baylor goes 3 and out, and this time gets the punt away. Bobbie Newcombe gets a good return. Dan Alexander has a great run of 30 and then takes it in from the 15 for the TD! Baylor gets a 1st down, then stalls, and Bobbie Newcombe returns the punt 39 yards to the Baylor 35. Eric Crouch takes it 17 yards, but then the drive stalls, and Josh Brown kicks the 33 yard FG. Baylor goes 3 and out, and Bobbie Newcombe returns the punt 24 yards to the Baylor 32. This drive is 4 plays, featuring a 15 yard run by Correll Buckhalter, and a 14 yard run by Eric Crouch for the TD! Baylor start at the 20 and moves backwards, and with 4th and 24 from the 6, punts the ball. The Huskers start at the Baylor 48. Jammal Lord is in at QB, and on his 1st play he hits Matt Davison for 25 yards! Alexander for 4, then for 11. Jammal Lord for 9. Alexander for 9, then 8. Jammal Lord for 3. Dan Alexander on a busted play has to go back after an errant pitch, picks up the ball, and still gains 9 yards to the Baylor 2! 4 plays later, Jammal Lord takes it in from the 3 for the TD! Nice drive for Jammal, 12 plays and 80 yards and the score. Baylor start at their 32, and goes 3 and out. The Huskers start on their 13 after the punt. Dan Alexander for 6, then 5. Correll Buckhalter for 3, and then Judd Davies goes 57 yards to the Baylor 16! Buckhalter for 4, then 5, and then 7 for the TD! Baylor bobbles the kickoff, and have to start on their 9 yard line. The get a first down, and the 1st half is over.
  
  3rd Quarter: Jammal Lord is the QB, and Dahrran Diedrick is in at I-back, Paul Kastl at fullback. The Huskers start at their 20. Diedrick for 2, Kastl for 3, and then Dahrran Diedrick goes for 32 yards to the Baylor 43! Paul Kastl for 7, Diedrick for 4, Kastl for 9, and then Dahrran Diedrick takes it 23 yards for the score! Baylor goes 3 and out. The Huskers start at their 14, Jammal Lord at QB, Robin Miller at fullback takes it for 3 yards. Lots of subs in. DeAntae Grixby in at I-back, and takes it 1 yard. a 12 yard penalty makes it 3 and 18, the drive stalls, and the Huskers are forced to punt. Baylor fumbles the punt, and Willie Amos recovers, and it is the Huskers ball on the Baylor 38. DeAntae Grixby loses 6, and then a penalty moves the ball back to the Nebraska 44, 3rd and 24. The drive stalls, and Baylor takes over on downs at their own 39, and after a gain of 8, the 3rd quarter ends.
  
  4th Quarter: Baylor is moving the ball, and pick up a few 1st downs and have the ball on the Nebraska 37. The ball is snapped over the Baylor QB's head, and it is 2nd and 33 on the Baylor 39 after the loss on the play. Baylor stalls, and is forced to punt, and after the penalty (12th of the day??) the Huskers start from the 5. Jammal Lord still in at QB. Thunder Collins in at I-back. Jammal Lord runs for 3, throws an incompletion, and runs for 6, but the Huskers have to punt, and Baylor starts from their 46. The go 3 and out, and the Huskers start on their 42. Jammal Lord for 8, then an incompletion. Finally, Thunder Collins gets the ball, and runs for 10 yards, then for 9, then 3. Joe Chrisman is now in at QB. Robin Miller takes it for 5.   Summary: Great game again by the Huskers, and especially by the Blackshirts. The Blackshirts get their 1st shutout of the year! Jammal Lord played over half the game, which is great experience for him, and gave Eric Crouch a nice rest before next weeks big game at Oklahoma. A ton of young Huskers got to play and get some game experience. The Huskers total offense was 508 - Baylor's 84. Rushing offense was 459 - Baylor's 5. The Blackshirts held Baylor to only 7 first downs.
  
  The 38 point 1st quarter was a record breaker, beating the previous record of 35 points that the Huskers had done 3 times. The Huskers led in total offense in the first quarter 189-1. Eric Crouch only played in the 1st quarter, and the only offensive starters to play in the second half were the line, and that was only on the first drive of the 3rd quarter.

  The best rivalry in college football is back, as the #1 Huskers meet the #2 Oklahoma Sooners in Norman, Oklahoma
  
  1st Quarter: The Huskers start with a 1-10 on their 25. Dan Alexander for 7. Eric Crouch for 15. A few plays later, Eric Crouch hits Wistrom for 13, and then hits Matt Davison for a 39 TD strike! Oklahoma starts on their 25, gets a few first downs, and punts it away. The Huskers start on their own 9. Eric Crouch loses 2 yards, then Willie Miller takes it 43 yards to mid-field! Eric Crouch hits Tracey Wistrom for 11, and Willie Miller carries it for 2. Then, Eric Crouch takes it 37 yards for a TD!
  
  2nd Quarter: The 2nd Quarter belongs completely to the Sooners, who scored 24 unanswered points. Josh Heupel has hit on several big pass plays, passing 233 yards in the 1st half. The only bright spot was for the Blackshirts, who stopped the Sooners after the Sooners had blocked a punt and started 1st and goal from the Nebraska 3. The sooners had to settle for a FG. Part of the problem has been field position, with the Huskers starting inside the 20 several times because of poor or ill advised kick returns.
  
  3rd Quarter: The 3rd quarter belongs to the Sooners Defense, with the only score being Strait's 34 yd interception return of an Eric Crouch pass for a TD. The Huskers continue to struggle on offense, not even able to do anything when the Blackshirts give the Huskers a break with Troy Watchorn handing them the ball in Sooners territory with an interception of Heupel.
  
  4th Quarter: The Huskers finally start moving the ball, and then the Sooners defense strips Matt Davison of the ball and take over on their own 20 yard line. The Blackshirts force Oklahoma to go 3 and out, and the Huskers try again, after a scare as Bobbie Newcombe drops the ball on the punt return, but covers his own fumble. Eric Crouch has a great long run and the Huskers get to midfield, then stall and have to punt. It just continues, with the Huskers attempting to block a punt and getting nailed for a roughing the punter penalty. It was just not the Huskers day today. I think the Blackshirts played pretty good in the second half, as the only scoring by either team was the interception return for the Sooners.
  
  Summary: Hats off to the Oklahoma Sooners (as much as I have always despised them!) for playing a great game, and also for having the class to not try for any points at the end of the game. Of course, since there is a good chance for a rematch in the Big 12 Championship, it was a smart move to not try and pile it on. Josh Heupel had a great game. In the post game interview, Josh Heupel showed additional class by saying it was a tough game, both teams were great, and that they did just enough to win. No bragging, no hype. If he is always like that, he might just deserve the Heisman at the end of the year. But I am not counting Eric Crouch out yet.
  
  The interesting thing when you look at the game, is that this game wasn't dominated by Oklahoma, but the Sooners did get the key big plays, including blocking a punt, an interception returned for a TD, and several key big passes by Heupel. The Huskers came out on fire for most of the 1st quarter, then seemed to totally fall asleep. The Huskers need to regroup, win the rest of their games, and then hopefully can beat Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship - assuming Oklahoma continues to win and beats Texas A&M on 11/11.

  The longest current continuous series in the NCAA continues today with a homecoming against the Kansas Jayhawks, as the Huskers look to rebound from last week. The NU-KU series goes back to 1906, and the Huskers have won 31 straight before today.
  
  1st Quarter: The Huskers win the toss and defer. Kansas starts around their own 22, and go 3 and out, and the Huskers start on their 44 after the punt. Dan Alexander for 6, then a big 23 yarder to the 27. Alexander for 1, 13, 11, 1, and Eric Crouch sneaks it in from the 1 for the TD! Kansas starts on their 25. This time Kansas is moving the ball, hitting some big passes of 15 and 17 yards. They move it down to the Huskers to the 35, but fumble the ball, and the Huskers get the ball on their own 47 after Erwin Swiney returns it 8 yards. A penalty makes it 1st and 24 from the 33. Correll Buckhalter is in, and runs for 9 and then 5. Eric Crouch hits Bobbie Newcomber for 18 yards to the Kansas 35. Buckhalter for 8, then Eric Crouch rips off a nice run of 22 yards to the 5. Crouch for 3, then Buckhalter for 1. Eric Crouch sneaks it in from their, for his 2nd TD. Kansas starts on their 18 after the kick, and Kyle Vanden Bosch sacks Dylen Smith at the 8.   2nd Quarter: Kansas is moving the ball, get inside the 20, but the drive stalls, and Kansas kicks a 45 yd FG and get 3 points of the mistake during the punt. The Huskers start on their 20. Eric Crouch rips off a 47 yard run to the Kansas 33! Buckhalter for 2, Josh Davies for 3, then Correll Buckhalter for 4 (including a fumble out of bounds) 4th and 1. The Huskers go for it, and Buckhalter makes it with an 8 yard run. A pass interference call gives the Huskers 1st and goal from the 2. Eric Crouch loses 2 yards, then hits Tracey Wistrom in the end zone for the TD, with the help of a tip from a Kansas defender. After the kickoff, Kansas starts on their 21, and move the ball down the field with a couple of big plays of 14 and 12 yards, reaching the Huskers 45 yard line before the Blackshirts finally stop them, and Kansas is forced to punt. The Huskers take over on their own 11 yard line. Dan Alexander runs for 6, 3 and 4 yards. Kansas intecepts, but it doesn't stand because of a pass interference penalty against Kansas. The Huskers have it 1st and 10 on their 39. Dan Alexander for 7, then Eric Crouch gets a great run of 17 yards to the Kansas 37. Dan Alexander for 8, then Buckhalter for 0 and 2.   3rd Quarter: The Huskers start on their 20 to begin the 2nd half, and Correll Buckhalter has runs of 3, 8, and 7 yards. Eric Crouch runs for 9 and 0, and then Correll Buckhalter has runs of 20 and 16 yards. Willie Miller carries it for 5, then another 5. Buckhalter for 3, and then carries it 4 for the TD! Eric Crouch and Dan Alexander are already over 100 yards rushing today, and now Correll Buckhalter is at 100 yards as well! Kansas starts at their 26, get a 1st down, but then are forced to punt again. Bobbie Newcombe returns it 23 yards from the 11 to the 34. Jammal Lord is in the game at QB, and the Huskers are at 1st and 15 after a penalty. Judd Davies carries for 13. Dahrran Diedrick for 4. Jammal Lord throws an incompletion, and then fumbles and KU recovers at the Huskers 42. After a few incompletions, the Blackshirts intercept KU when Jeremy Slechta picks of Smith and returns it 6 yards, and the Huskers have it back on their 46. Dahrran Diedrick runs for 9, and Jammal Lord takes it for 7 to the KU 35. Judd Davies for 3, Jammal for 11, the Jammal hits Wilson Thomas for 8 yards. A few of the Blackshirts are back in to try and stop KU. KU rushes for 1, then 2 incomplete passes. KU has it 4th and 5, and Dylen Smith takes it in for KU. KU wakes up against some of the subs, and takes it 74 yards in 7 plays for the score. Joe Walker returns the kickoff 30 yards to the 38 (the Huskers are dead last in the NCAA in kickoff returns - I hope that helps!), and the Huskers start from their. Jammal Lord hits Judd Davies for 27 yards to the KU 35. Dahrran Diedrick for 4, then 17 to the KU 14. Jammal Lord fumbles, and Diedrick recovers for a loss of 7 yards. Diedrick for no gain. Jammal Lord hits Dahrran Diedrick 12 yards, but it is still 4th and 5 on the 10. Jammal Lord hits John Gibson with a great catch for 7 yards and the 1st down! Judd Davies takes it 3 yards for the score, his first TD as a Husker! Kansas starts at their 20. After a 4 yard sack, KU gets a 1st down at their 26 on a pass interference penalty. Zach Dyer is in at QB for KU, and they start moving the ball on their own, and this is with most of the Blackshirts in on defense. A big pass play of 29 yards moves the ball to the Huskers 20 yard line. Reggie Duncan takes it in from the 2 for the KU TD. The Huskers will start from their 32.   Summary: Eric Crouch rushed 15 times for 127 yards and 4 TDs, and passed for another TD. The 4 rushing TDs ties a Huskers record that he shares with Scott Frost, Jerry Gdowski and Mickey Joseph. Eric Crouch also becomes the Huskers leading rushing QB with 2152 career yards, passing Steve Taylor's 2125 career yards. Dan Alexander rushed for 119 yards on 15 carries, and Correll Buckhalter rushed 16 times for 100 yards and 1 TD. This is only the 2nd time that 3 backs have rushed for 100 yards in a game, the other 3 were Ken Clark, Steve Taylor and Terry Rodgers in 1988 against Arizona State. The Huskers had 493 rushing yards, 562 hards of total offense, were 7 out of 8 passing, scored on their 1st 6 possessions, and never punted during the game. 98 players got into the game - but not Dan Hadenfeldt (the punter!)
  
  The Blackshirts played great for 3 quarters, and only gave up KU's 2 TDs in the 4th quarter. Carlos Polk played a great game, and was the Amoco player of the Game. He now has 201 career tackles. The victory marks the 32nd straight homecoming victory, and the 32nd straight victory over Kansas. The 32 straight victories over Kansas is the secondest longest in NCAA Division 1-A history. The attendance of 78,096 was also a record crowd today. Bobbie Newcombe moved up to 2nd on the list of Huskers punt returners, with 826 punt return yards, but he is still behind Johnny Rogers by 689 yards. Rogers had 1515 in his '70-'72 seasons.
  
  Great game, but some bad news with injuries to Jason Schwab (not sure how serious), and Jon Rutherford had an ACL injury that will require surgery.

  The last time the Huskers traveled to Kansas State, the Wildcats broke a 29 game losing streak to the Huskers. The winner of this game will likely go to the Big 12 Championship. It is miserable weather for the game.
  
  1st Quarter: The Huskers win the toss and defer. K-State starts at their 20, and go 3 and out. The punt is blocked!! Keyuo Craver takes it in for the TD!! K-State starts on their 27 this time, and they go 3 and out again, but a roughing the punter penalty gives the back back to Kansas State on their 48. K-State still can't move it, punt again, and the Huskers go on offense for the first time on their own 22. Correll Buckhalter at I-Back and Dan Alexander at Fullback to start the game - this is different. But the Huskers go 3 and out, hampered by a penalty. And then another on the punt forces Dan Hadenfeldt to punt out of the endzone. K-State will start on the Huskers 48. A huge pass play for 41 yards puts K-State on the 7, and they get the TD a few plays later. The Huskers start on their 44, get a first down, then penalties move us backwards again. With a 4th and 17 on our 48, the Huskers are forced to punt - but a roughing the punter penalty the other way this time gives the Huskers a break - and a 1st down on the Kansas State 36. Dan Alexander runs for 7, 2, and 3. Eric Crouch loses a couple, and then gains 3, before hitting Matt Davison for 22 yards, 1st and Goal on the 1. Eric Crouch sneaks it in from there! It is pouring now, and the shoes are being changed. K-State starts the drive on their 20.
  
  2nd Quarter: Kansas State gets a first down, and then Loran Kaiser picks off Beasley and returns it 13 yards to the 17! Correll Buckhalter for 2, then 3 more. Another penalty moves us back 5 yards, 3rd and 10. Eric Crouch runs for 5, and Josh Brown misses the 29 yard FG. KSU starts on their 20, goes 3 and out, and the Huskers start on their 45, go 3 and out, and punt it away. KSU starts on their 16. A penalty moves them back 5, and then Randy Stella sacks Beasley on the 4 yard line, 3rd and 22! Beasley gets KSU out of the mess with a big pass play to Morgan on the 36. Beasley is moving the Wildcats, and have it 1-10 on the 19. The Blackshirts finally stop the 13 play KSU drive and KSU gets the 38 yd FG. The Huskers start on their 20. Eric Crouch gets nailed for a 5 yard loss. On 3rd and 15, Eric runs for 10 yards, but it is 4th and 5, and punt it away. KSU takes over at the NU 49, and Beasley hits Morgan for a 49 yard TD, and KSU takes the lead 17-14. The Huskers have almost no offense in the first half, with KSU having a 208-74 yard advantage with 1 1/2 minutes to go in the half. The Huskers take over on their 20. KSU picks off Eric Crouch and KSU gets it back on their 40. KSU goes 3 and out, and time runs out when KSU punts. I think Frank Solich needs to get the team fired up at halftime.
  
  3rd Quarter: The Huskers get the ball first on their 17, and go 3 and out and punt. Kansas State starts at the 49, and on the 2nd play Beasley hits Morgan for 40 yards. The Blackshirts stop things their, and KSU gets a 27 yd FG. The Huskers start on their 19, and Dan Alexander fumbles and KSU recovers on the 19. The Blackshirts take care of business, and KSU settles for another FG. The Huskers start on their 20, and still don't have even 80 yards of total offense. They go 3 and out, and are forced to punt again. KSU starts on the NU 47. I think the Blackshirts need to take over the scoring now, since the offense doesn't seem to want to. They stop KSU, but on 4th and 1 KSU goes for it and makes the 1st down on the 37. After 3 incompletions, KSU punts it away, but a roughing the punter call and personal fouls somehow ends up as a penalty against Oklahoma! What?!?! Anyway, the KSU ends up with the ball 1st and 10 on the 46 of the Huskers. After 1 1st down, KSU attempts a fake FG, make the 1st down, but fumble, and the Huskers get the ball on their own 16. Go Blackshirts!! Eric Crouch for 12 yards, then he loses 3. An incompletion makes it 3rd and 13 and KSU takes a timeout. Another incomplete, and the Huskers punt it away. KSU returns the punt 65 yards for a TD, but the Huskers get a huge break as KSU was guilty of an illegal block, and it comes back. KSU starts off on their 34, and another penalty moves them back to the 24. KSU can't get anything going, and the Huskers start at their 47 after the punt. Correll Buckhalter for 3, Crouch for 5 and then no gain. 4th and 2 and Correll Buckhalter blasts through for 6 to the 39 for the 1st down. Correll adds 3 more as the 3rd quarter comes to an end. And I think the Huskers finally have over 100 yards of total offense.
  
  4th Quarter: Willie Miller for 11 yards and a first down. Dan Alexander for 6. Dan Alexander for 19 yards and the TD!!! We are back in it, but KSU still leads 23-21. Still, the offense appeared to finally get on track, and the Huskers now finally have over 100 yards rushing offense. After the kickoff, KSU starts on their 26. The Blackshirts force KSU to go 3 and out, and Joe Walker returns the punt to the 50, but a penalty brings it back to their 25. Dan Alexander for 8. Dan Alexander for 14 carrying people. Dan Alexander for 5, then 3. Dan Alexander takes it 45 yards for the score, and the Huskers retake the lead 28-23!! Dan Alexander is now over 120 yards rushing, and 2 TDs! KSU starts on their 28 after the kickoff. The move the ball to around midfield, but then the Blackshirts stiffen and KSU has to punt. The Huskers start on their 18. Dan Alexander for 5. Cartwright runs for 13, then the Blackshirts get called for holding and KSU has it 1st and 10 on the 39 of the Huskers. The sleet is pouring down. Beasley for 15, Scobey for 6, Beasley for 8, and it is 1st and goal for KSU on the 10. A few plays later Beasley hits Morgan for the TD, and KSU goes for 2 and fail, but KSU is back on top 29-28. The weather is getting worse, with sleet and snow making the field extremely slippery. The Huskers start on the 21 after the kickoff. Eric Crouch hits Tracey Wistrom for 18 yards to the 39. Eric Crouch for 3. Tiemout Huskers. Willie Miller for 0. Eric Crouch throws an incompletion. 4th and 6 with 0:57 left. Timeout Huskers. Eric Crouch tries to hit Matt Davison, but it goes incomplete, and KSU takes over on downs. Beasley takes a knee and the Huskers take their last timeout. Beasley takes a knee one last time, and the game is over.
  
  Summary: The bottom line: too little, too late. By the time the Huskers offense got started, it was too late in the game. Even though they took the lead in the 4th quarter, KSU regained the lead and there just wasn't enough time left. The Huskers had only 200 yards rushing and 239 yards total offense. KSU had 377 yards total offense.

  1st Quarter: Colorado starts on the 35 after the kickoff goes out of bounds. They lose yardage on their 1st play, and then Carlos Polk intercepts the ball and returns it 39 yards for the TD! Carlos Polk's first career TD! Colorado goes 3 and out, and the Huskers start at their 32. Eric Crouch for 10, Alexander for 8, then 5, and then Dan Alexander fumbles and Colorado takes over around the 30. A few plays and CU has it 1st and goal inside the 10. Carlos Polk is down. After a few minutes, he runs off under his own power. The Blackshirts hold them, and CU misses the FG wide left!! The Huskers start on the 20. Alexander for 6, Crouch for 3, and Alexander for 2. They lose a couple, Crouch hits Davison for 8, but the drive stalls. CU blocks the punt - someone came in untouched, and CU starts on the Huskers 23. CU can't move the ball, and go for the FG. Randy Stella blocks the FG! Chris Kelsay grabs it out of the air, and returns it all the way back to the CU 27, including a great move on his return. Eric Crouch takes it 27 yards on the 1st play of the drive for the TD! CU starts on the 23, and is driving down the field with a couple of good runs. Then on 4th and 1 on the Huskers 44 CU goes for it, and gets the 1st down on 2nd effort. Kyle Vanden Bosch gets called for a cheesy roughing the passer penalty (a CU player spun Kyle into the QB), and CU gets a 10 yard run, to have the ball on the Huskers 17. The Blackshirts get CU in a 3rd and 15, and a pass interference penalty gives CU new life.
  
  2nd Quarter: CU kicks a 32 yard FG to start the 2nd quarter. The Huskers start on the 20, and Correll Buckhalter goes 22 yards. Crouch throws a couple of incompletions, gains 2, and the Huskers punt. CU takes over at their 29. Carlos Polk is back in the game!! CU goes 3 and out, punts, and the ball bounces off of Watchorns head, and CU takes over at the 25. Sweeney intercepts at the goal line, and in another lousy call, the refs put the ball on the 1 foot line instead of on the 20, and they are holding Frank Solich back he is so mad - and rightfully so. The Huskers move it out to the 8, and punt. CU takes over on the Huskers 47. After a couple plays, CU goes 39 yards for the score. The Huskers start on their 23. Dan Alexander runs for 8, Crouch loses a couple, then Alexander for 4 and a 1st down by inches. Alexander for 2, and Crouch hits Davison for 9. After a play, Eric Crouch goes 32 yards to the 20. Miller for 1. Crouch for 4 to the 15. Crouch for nothing, and it is 4th and 5. Josh Brown misses the FG wide left, and CU takes over at their 20. CU is moving the ball again, into Huskers territory at the 31 with 1:27 left in the half. After losing a couple, CU attempts the 42 yard FG, and miss wide right! The Huskers just run out the clock and take a 14-10 lead into halftime. CU has had several breaks and has tried some trickery, and are playing like this is their season - which of course it is. CU is not going to a bowl game.
  
  3rd Quarter: The Huskers start on the 25 after the kickoff, and Dan Alexander takes it 42 yards. On the next play, Eric Crouch makes a bad pitch and CU comes up with the ball at their own 27. Colorado drives down the field, including 2 big runs of 14 and 13 yards, and a 16 yard pass play. Colorado takes the lead 17-14. The Huskers start on their 25. Alexander for no gain, then Crouch throws an incompletion. Crouch then hits Matt Davison for 15 yards. Another incomplete pass, and Crouch runs for 13. Alexander for 2, Crouch to Jon Bowling for 7, Alexander for 5, then 19, then 1. Correll Buckhalter for 11, and Eric Crouch takes it in from the 2 for the TD! The Huskers retake the lead 21-17.
  
  4th Quarter: Colorado drives 77 yards in 15 plays and score a TD, retaking the lead 24-21. The Huskers start on their 28. Eric Crouch for 7, Buckhalter for 4. Then, Eric Crouch hits Tracey Wistrom for 26 yards to the Colorado 35. Crouch loses 2, then runs for no gain. Crouch hits John Gibson for 5, 4th and 7. Eric Crouch takes a viscious hit and Colorado gets flagged for roughing the passer, automatic 1st down! Judd Davies for no gain, Crouch for 2. An incompletion brings Josh Brown on for the 20 yard FG, and the score is tied, 24-24. The kickoff goes out of bounds again, and CU starts on their 35. Ochs completes 2 big passes of 16 and 26 yards, and CU is at the 22 yard line. The drive stalls, Colorado goes for the 41 yard FG, and the Huskers block it, and again Chris Kelsay recovers the blocked FG. The Huskers start at their 42. Correll Buckhalter for 13, then 17! Willie Miller for 3. Eric Crouch loses a yard, and then Eric takes it 26 yards for the TD! The Huskers have the lead 31-24 with 5:20 left in the game. Colorado starts on their 33, and hit on 2 quick pass plays of 18 and 13 yards. With some incompletions mixed in, CU hits for 8, 10, and finally 15 yards to put the ball in the endzone with :47 seconds left. Colorado elects to go for 2, a gutsy call instead of playing for over time, and makes it to take the lead 32-31. No way! What a shocker this has turned out to be. Colorado is pulling out all the stops, and now there is only :47 left in the game. Colorado squibs the kickoff, and Dahrran Diedrick gets the ball to the 42, great field position. Eric Crouch hits John Gibson for 6 yards, then hits John Gibson again for 7 more. Eric Crouch hits Bobbie Newcombe for 14 yards to the CU 31. Eric Crouch runs for a yard, and the Huskers call for their last timeout with 11 seconds left. 2 and 9 from the CU 30, and Eric Crouch hits Bobbie Newcombe for a HUGE 17 yard pass completion to the Colorado 13, and Bobbie Newcombe steps out of bounds with :05 left on the clock. Josh Brown trots onto the field for the FG, and hits the 29 yarder to win the game! Way to go Josh Brown!! Way to go Huskers!! 32nd straight season with 9 victories!!

The stars of the last drive: Eric Crouch, John Gibson, Bobbie Newcombe, and Josh Brown. 2 key completions to Bobbie Newcombe, including the final play with Bobbie going out of bounds to stop the clock with 5 seconds left to set up the winning FG! Who says Eric Crouch can't pass when he has to??!! Who says Bobbie Newcombe doesn't make a difference??!! What a game!!   The Bowl game we didn't want, against the Big 10 co-champion Northwestern Wildcats. For some reason, I was more nervous before this game than I have been in a long time. Partly because I was not sure how the Huskers would respond to being here. Frank Solich put the Huskers through a rigorous practice schedule leading up to this game, so we will see. The other reason I was nervous was because since I live in Illinois, I would never hear the end of it if Northwestern were to win.
  
  1st Quarter: The Huskers win the toss and defer. Northwestern starts at their own 16, and go 3 and out. The Huskers start at their 46 after a 4 yard return by Bobbie Newcombe. Newcombe on the reverse for 5, then Dan Alexander takes it 19 yards to the Northwestern 30! Alexander for 8, Willie Miller for 7, and Alexander for 15 yards and the TD! Northwestern takes over on their 20, and Kustok rips off a big run of 28 yards, and then a few plays later for 30 yards. They get it to a 1st and goal from the 9, move backwards with the help of Kyle Vanden Bosch and Jason Lohr, and settle for the 45 yard FG. The Huskers start on the 38, and Dan Alexander takes it for 12, then 6, then the drive stalls and we punt. Northwestern takes over on their 20 and goes 3 and out, with Kyle Vanden Bosch applying pressure and John Clanton getting a sack. The Huskers start on their 49, get a 1st down, but then Northwestern picks off a tipped pass and they take over on their 32. The Northwestern drive is about 14 plays, including a fake punt on 4th and 9 that goes for a 1st down, and stretches into the 2nd quarter.
  
  2nd Quarter: Zak Kustok hits Johnson for a 10 yard pass, and Northwestern takes the lead, 10-7. Joe Walker returns the kickoff 34 yards and the Huskers start on their 49. On the 1st play, Eric Crouch takes off for an awesome 51 yard TD run, and the Huskers are back on top, 14-10. Northwestern starts on their 20, goes 3 and out, and again the Huskers start in great field position at the 49. Dan Alexander for 34, then 13, and then 2 more for the TD, and a 21-10 lead. Northwestern starts at the 25, and goes 3 and out, helped by Carlos Polk knocking down a pass, and a great play by Keyou Craver. Go Blackshirts! The Huskers start on their 43, and it is our turn to go 3 and out. Northwestern gets a decent punt return, but a penalty puts them back on the 4, where they go 3 and out and are lucky to get out
