  The Huskers led 35-6 at the half and looked great, but the second half proved to be a little different. The Bulldogs cut the Huskers lead to 35-21 early in the 3rd quarter. But the final score is what matters: 56-27
  
  Bobby Newcombe was 9-100-168 and 1 TD passing and 2 rushing TDs. Not a bad start! I would have preferred to see some more rushing yards, but an excellent 1st game for the new starter.
  
  With DeAngelo Evans sidelined for a few weeks, Correll Buckhalter ran for 143 yards on 19 carries and 2 TDs, and Makovicka added 47 yards rushing.
  
  Joe Walker responded to the first Louisiana Tech score with a 99 yard kickoff return for a TD!
  
  The bad news: Louisiana Tech's Tim Rattay was 46-68-1-590 (yes that is 590 yards passing) and Troy Edwards had 21 receptions for 405 yards, a new NCAA record for yards receiving in a game, and only 2 receptions shy of the reception record. The Blackshirts need to figure out if Tim Rattay and Troy Edwards are that good, or if they REALLY need to improve in the secondary. Regarding Troy Edwards, "He's a first-round draft choice," McBride said. "He can run off with it and run by most people he's going to play. He's that good."
  
  Still, the Huskers walk away with the first win under new head coach Frank Solich. After the game, when he was asked if he was concerned about a weakness exposed by Louisiana Tech, he responded that the Rattay and Edwards have been exposing that weakness in everyone they played. He was referring to the fact that Rattay had passed for over 300 yards in 9 games last year, and had 34 TDs.

  Eric Crouch, starting in place of Bobby Newcombe, led the Huskers to a 38-7 win in his first start at QB. Eric was 11-17 for 127 yards and 1 TD passing, and he rushed for 69 yards on 7 carries and 2 TDs.
  
  With DeAngelo Evans still out, Correll Buckhalter ran for 96 yards on 19 carries, and Makovicka added 47 yards rushing.
  
  Tracey Wistrom, younger brother of Grant Wistrom, scored on a 69 yard pass reception from Monte Christo.
  
  Kris Brown set the all time Huskers career scoring record.
  
  The Huskers had a very balanced attack with 236 yds rushing and 208 passing.

  Eric Crouch, slowed by a hamstring injury and starting again in place of Bobby Newcombe, has rushed for 2 TDs in the first half.
  
  The Huskers struggled in the 3rd quarter. Monte Christo is in at QB, with Crouch being forced out by his hamstring injury. Monte Christo drove the Huskers down the field, but Kris Brown missed on a 40 yd FG attempt, breaking his string of 17 consecutive FGs.
  
  The Huskers finally put the game away 4 minutes into the 4th quarter, with a 5 yard pass from Monte Christo to Shevin Wiggins. Kris Brown added a 41 yd field goal with :19 seconds left.
  
  The Blackshirts actually played a great game. They gave up some big plays, but were very tough inside the 30 yard line. A couple of late interceptions helped put the game away. The defense really needed to come through today, when the offense was struggling, and they did. Thanks Blackshirts!!
  
  Considering it was the first road game of the year, the first road game for Coach Solich (as head coach), and we were missing several key starters, it wasn't that bad. Still, we need to be healthy for Washington in two weeks, and I think we will be.
  
  The Huskers moved up to #2 in both the AP and coaches Poll after Tennessee knocks off Florida, while the Huskers had the week off on 9/19/98.

  Newcombe and Evans look awesome in the 1st quarter. It is great having them both back and healthy. Evans ripped an awesome 60 yard TD run, and has 2 TDs in the 1st Quarter. Newcombe had 1 TD in the 1st and two more in the 3rd.
  
  Evans is over 100 yards early in the 2nd Quarter, and has added a 3rd TD on a 19 Yard run. He is BACK! Great moves, great quickness. (He finished with 146 yds on 13 carries)
  
  Kris Brown has kicked over 100 extra points in his career.
  
  The Blackshirts are pounding Huard - there have been several times already where Washington had 3rd and longer than 15 to go, some due to penalties. The Huskies did finally score with just over a minute left in the 1st half, for the 1st TD scored against the Huskers in 8 quarters.

  The Huskers rushed for 434 yards, which is much more like it! The offensive line deserves a lot of credit.
  
  Washington was the last team to beat the Huskers at Lincoln, back on September 21st, 1991, so today was some sweet revenge for that.
  
  The 48 point winning margin over Washington is the largest ever by the Huskers over a Top 10 team.
  
  The Huskers gain on Ohio State, but they remain ranked 2nd in the AP and coaches polls. They have reclaimed the #1 Dunkel rating.

  What a difference a week makes. Was Oklahoma State that good, or did we have an off night, or both? I am not sure what I think, but I am sure glad we won. I have to wonder if the huge win over Washington last week made the boys a little over confident. Also, Oklahoma State may have been a little better than I thought. Coming into the game, they were ranked 15th in Rushing, 25th in Total Offense, and 24th in Rushing Defense. Not awesome, but a lot better than I thought they were.
  
  Oklahoma State held the Huskers to just 73 yards rushing and 215 yards total offense. I still can't believe it. Oklahoma State rushed for more yards (175) and passed for more yards (180) for an obviously larger total offense of 355. They also had 79 offensive plays to NU's 52, and time of possession was 35:10 for OSU and 24:50 for NU.
  
  The Huskers did what they had to, when it counted. They had just 1 penalty, but it was costly - it negated an interception that would have left the Huskers in awesome scoring position. There were no turnovers in the game.
  
  No matter what, Oklahoma State has earned a lot of respect with their play today, no matter what was going on with the Huskers.

  Well, this stinks. Not only do the Huskers lose, but I miss the game, my VCR fails to record the game on pay per view, and the real audio tracks are still being archived. So I really don't know what happened yet. However.....
  
  For the second week in a row, the Huskers' rushing attack is stopped. We did gain 141 yds, which was better than last week, but we often rush for twice as many yards as the last game and this game combined. So we have a serious problem in this department. I really don't understand what is happening. Are the Oklahoma State and Texas A&M defenses that good, or is there a problem on our offense. I hate to say it, but no matter how good they are, we have a problem somewhere, and we had better figure it out quick, or this will not be the only game we lose.
  
  Of course, part of the problem is we tried to give the game away. Texas A&M scored on an 81 yard pass play in the first quarter, and set up their 2nd TD with a 71 yard run. Then, Bobby Newcombe fumbles into the end zone and a Texas A&M player jumps on the ball for their third TD. The only real drive that A&M scored on was their 4th TD that consumed 86 yards and ran 6:15 off the clock. You can't knock A&M for getting easy scores and taking advantage of them, but you can knock the defense when they allow it to happen - twice.
  
  The Huskers did make a valiant effort to win, and never gave up. Down 28-7 in the 4th quarter, Bobby Newcombe led the Huskers on 2 TD drives to bring the game within a score at 28-21 with 4:39 remaining. The Huskers got the ball back with 2 minutes to go, but Bobby Newcombe was intercepted to kill the final drive with 52 seconds left.
  
  This whole thing seems like it is my fault, since I was unable to hear or see the game. The last regular season loss the Huskers had, to Arizona State 2 years ago, was a game where I only heard part of the 1st half on the radio, and missed the entire 2nd half. Now I am going to be paranoid if I ever have to miss hearing/seeing the game live again.
  
  The Huskers' 19 game winning streak comes to an end. Their 40 game conference streak also is over. And of course their hopes for a 3rd back to back National Championship just got a lot dimmer.
  
  The Huskers' fall to 8th in the AP and Coaches poll.

  The BLACKSHIRTS have their first shutout of the year- way to go guys!! A great victory after last week's loss, and keeps the fact that the Huskers have not lost two consecutive regular season games since 1976 intact.
  
  The Huskers get back on track, rushing for 466 yards, passing for 79, 545 yards total offense. Correll Buckhalter, starting for injured DeAngelo Evans, led the way with 133 yards and 3 TDS.
  
  Bobby Newcombe and Monte Christo took turns at QB, and both did a great job. Bobby still doesn't seem quite at full strength running the ball, but he was 5-8-0 for 79 yards passing, including a couple of great passes like a 25 yard completion to Makovicka. Makovicka also rushed for 61 yards, and threw some critical blocks.
  
  The Huskers had 3 scoring drives of 10 plays or more that took over 5 minutes.
  
  The Huskers extended their streak of homecoming victories to 30, and this was their 3rd straight homecoming shutout.
  
  This was the 30th straight victory over Kansas. This was the 93rd consecutive game in the series, which is the longest continuously played series college football, and the overall record vs. Kansas is 81-21-3.
  
  A special note to Frankie London - Get well soon! Frankie fractured his left Tibia during the game.
  
  The Huskers move up to 7th in both polls, after Virginia loses to Georgia Tech.

  The Huskers were looking pretty good, until we fumbled and Missouri's Steve Erickson ran the ball in for a cheap TD.
  
  Could be a long day. Missouri blocked a 38 yd field goal attempt and ran it back to the Huskers 25 yd line. The blackshirts held them from the 1 for 3 plays, but Missouri finally scored when they went for it on 4th and a foot. Nebraska did recover a fumble on the 1st or 2nd play from the 1, but the officials missed it.
  
  The Huskers had a great drive going, and had to settle for a FG as time ran out in the 1st half. Still - this should boost things as we are only down a TD now, and the offense ended the half with a great drive. The defense is playing good - we just need to pull it together and score some TDs!
  
  The Huskers finally score and tie up the game near the end of the 3rd quarter. Earlier in the 3rd, Kris Brown missed a 30 yd FG. The Blackshirts continue to play great. Matt Davison had another great catch to keep the drive alive.
  
  The Huskers take the lead 20-13 on a 3 yd run by Monte Christo, who has been in for the entire 2nd half so far.
  
  The Huskers fumble on their last drive, giving Missouri one last chance. Missouri drove down, but Eric Johnson sacks Corby Jones to stop Missouri. The BLACKSHIRTS do it again! Thanks guys!!

  The Huskers got off to a slow start, allowing Texas to score on 2 of their 1st 3 drives. After that, the defense played very well until just before the 4th quarter, actually pretty good then too. Ricky Williams had over half of his 150 yards in the 1st quarter, and had to work hard for yardage after that. Except for 1 long 72 yard pass play, the defense did a pretty good job. However...
  
  The offense really started off slow. Monte Christo started, and had some problems holding on to the ball early. While not turning the ball over, the drops helped kill off a drive or two. Then, on the third drive where Christo really started to move the team to the Texas 16, we came away empty after Kris Brown missed the FG.
  
  Crouch came in and went 3 and out for his first series. He did much better on his next series, and drives the team to the Texas 10 yard line. The Huskers finally score on the last play of the 1st half, when Kris Brown kicks a 27 yd FG. We had 1st and 10 on the 10 after a pass interference call, but there was no time left, so the FG was it.
  
  The Huskers and Texas are both having trouble moving the ball in the 3rd quarter. However, Kris Brown hits on a 47 yard FG, and later Crouch caps off a drive with a 38 yard TD run, and the Huskers take the lead, 13-10. Near the end of the 3rd Quarter, the Huskers intercept and get the ball on the Texas 12 yard line, but a few plays later Crouch is stripped of the ball, and we blow an excellent opportunity to score and maybe put the game away.
  
  The Huskers and Texas exchange FGs, making it 16-13. Texas scores the go ahead TD with 2:47 left in the game. The Huskers drive 26 yards to their own 49, but then it is two incomplete passes out of the hurry up offense, and we turn it over on downs. Game over. I wonder why we were going without a huddle on the last two plays, since the clock was stopped in both cases. If we were trying to catch Texas napping, it didn't work.
  
  The Husker fans give Ricky Williams and Texas a standing ovation, and the Husker's 47 game winning streak comes to an end. I have to wonder what would have happened if Bobby Newcombe and DeAngelo Evans had been in the game, but that is no excuse.
  
  The Huskers fall to 14th and 15th, and Texas gets in at 20th and 23rd.

  It is snowing in Ames, and the natural grass makes the footing worse, but the Huskers are doing fine behind Eric Crouch in his 3rd start. Dan Alexander (2 TDs) and Correll Buckhalter (1 TD) have us up 21-0 at halftime.
  
  It is still snowing in Ames. Dan Alexander adds a 3rd TD in the 3rd Quarter, and Monte Christo gets into the act with a 4th Qtr TD. Joe Walker runs back an interception 65 yards for a TD.
  
  Dan Alexander in his first start rushed 22 times for 110 yards and 3 TDs - Great job Dan! The Huskers rushed for 359 yards and had 403 total. The first string defense held ISU to 0 yards rushing and 99 total through 3 quarters, before substitutions started. (ISU ended up with 227 yards total offense)
  
  This should help raise spirits and build confidence going into next weeks huge game with Kansas State.

  The Huskers take the opening drive 80 yards to score. Dan Alexander injured his knee on the 1st play of the second drive, and was out for the game. The Huskers lead 17-14 at halftime, even though Kansas State got a free touchdown as Bishop was held about 6 inches short of the goal line, but they gave it to him anyway. It was only 2nd down, so they would have had two more chances, but still.
  
  The Huskers go 3 and out on their first 3 drives of the 2nd half, and K-State takes the lead 24-17, but Ralph Brown counters with a 74 yd fumble return, to end the 3rd quarter 24-24.
  
  The Huskers get back on track and take the lead with Crouch's 3rd TD pass, and Jackson's 2nd reception, but Kris Brown missed the extra point. It was his first missed PAT in 126 attempts.
  
  Kansas State retook the lead with 5:25 to go, and lead 34-30. Nebraska had one last chance, and on 4th and long, Crouch was hauled down by his facemask, but apparently the official had his eyes closed, because it wasn't called. Actually, Nebraska had one more last chance, when K-State turned the ball over on downs with about 15 seconds to go. But Nebraska fumbled and K-State's Kelly grabbed the loose ball and took it in to make the final 40-30. They didn't even attempt the extra point, as the crowd was on the field - or maybe they figured 40-30 was good enough - and Bishop took a knee.
  
  Another streak ends, as Kansas State beats Nebraska for the first time in 30 years. Nebraska has 3 regular season conference losses for the first time since 1977.
  
  I want to say something good about Eric Crouch. He played a great game in his fourth start, against maybe the best defense in the country, and never gave up. And remember, he is just a redshirt freshman. I think he has the ability to really lead the team over the next few years, as does Bobby Newcombe. I feel good about both of them.
  
  And finally, good luck to Kansas State - I hope you remain undefeated and go on to win the National Championship - and win it for the Big 12 Conference. You still have a few tough games left, so if you do remain undefeated - you should be able to defeat anyone.

  The Huskers looked ready to roll when Finley intercepted at the Colorado 42 and took it in for the TD. However, we haven't done much since, and the officials aren't helping. Colorado was awarded a fumble recovery that was really out of bounds.
  
  Kris Brown has broken the NCAA record for extra points made, and tied the NCAA record for extra points attempted. Great job Kris!!

  Mike Rucker had a few great sacks, forcing the fumble that lead to the winning field goal, and a huge sack by Kelsay late in the 4th quarter helps the Blackshirts stop Colorado in their last drive, and Colorado turns the ball over on downs. Great game for the Blackshirts - especially when it counted. Colorado's last drive started on the 9 after Bill LaFleur's 58-yard punt.
  
  The Huskers had only 12 first downs, rushed for only 131 yards on 37 carries, and only had 254 yards total offense. But the important statistic is the final score. Bobby Newcombe was interviewed during the game, and he indicated that it was very possible he might be able to play in whatever bowl game we go to.
  
  Coach Solich gets 9 victories in his first season, which considering all the injuries this year, was a great accomplishment. Congrats Coach! The Huskers have at least 9 victories for the 30th straight season. Great job guys.

  The Huskers got off to a very slow start, with Wiggins fumbling Arizona's first punt, and handing the ball back to Arizona for an eventual FG. The Blackshirts give up a big pass play, then hang tough and only allow a FG, and later hang tough again when a fumble hands the ball to Arizona in great field position but they only get their 3rd FG.
  
  Finally, the Huskers get on the board with a FG with 5 minutes left in the first half. Then, they finally get a TD on a 45 yd TD pass to Wiggins, who makes up for his earlier fumble on Arizona's first punt. Then, Legate forces and recovers a fumble on the Arizona 9 yd line on the Kickoff following the TD, which results in another FG as the half expires.
  
  After a scoreless 3rd Quarter, Arizona and the Huskers swapped touchdowns, then Arizona scored another to take the lead 23-20 with 6:08 left. The Huskers next drive ended with an interception, and then they got the ball back with :41 seconds left, but couldn't get the ball done.
  
  The Blackshirts played a great game, but were on the field too long. The offense show moments of life, but went 3 and out too many times.
  
  The Huskers lose 4 games in a season for the 1st time in 30 years. This is the streak that hurts the most to lose this year, but at least the streak of 9 wins is still intact. Considering all of the injuries this year, the Huskers had a decent year, but lets hope they get back to championship form next year.
